Origin, sustaining power, and destination
— all held by God, not by you.
You’ve spent the week trying to hold too many things together at once — a job that won’t slow down, people who need more from you than you have left to give, decisions piling up faster than you can make them well. Somewhere underneath all of it sits a question you probably haven’t said out loud: if you stop pushing so hard, will it all come apart?
Paul answers that question with a single sentence, and it is one of the most freeing lines in all of Scripture. After eleven chapters of wrestling through the mystery of God’s plan for Israel and the nations, he does not land on a strategy or a to-do list. He lands on praise.
“For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.”

Of Him: You Are Not the Origin
Everything you are carrying right now — your job, your family, your health, your future — originated with God. You did not invent your own existence, and you did not invent the world you are navigating today. It came from Him first, long before you had any say in the matter. That means the pressure to be the source of your own stability was never yours to carry in the first place. You were never meant to hold up what only God can hold up.
Through Him: You Are Not the Power Supply
This is the part most of us forget by Wednesday. Not only did God start things — He is sustaining them right now, in this exact hour. Your strength today is not running on what you managed to build up over the weekend, on willpower, or on how well you slept. It is running on Him, continuously, whether you notice it or not. Colossians 1:17 says it plainly: in Christ, all things hold together. Your day is no exception.
To Him: You Are Not the Destination
And here is the part that reorders everything: it is all moving toward Him. Your work matters. Your effort matters. But the outcome was never resting on your shoulders alone, because the whole story is heading somewhere — toward His glory, not toward your ability to manage every variable perfectly. You get to work hard without needing the universe to balance on your performance.
Origin, Power, and Purpose — All Held by God
Of Him, through Him, to Him. Origin, sustaining power, and destination — all held by God, not by you. Paul does not end this verse with a plan. He ends it with worship, because once you actually see who is holding the world together, you stop grasping so tightly and start breathing again.
So today, hand back what was never yours to carry. Do your work well — Scripture never asks you to do less. But do it as someone standing inside God’s story, not as someone propping it up. Let the weight you have been carrying loosen just enough for you to say, honestly, what Paul said: to Him be the glory, forever.

A prayer
Father, everything comes from You, holds together through You, and moves toward You. Forgive me for carrying weight that was never mine to bear, and for living some days as though the world depended on my grip rather than Your hands. Teach me to work with open hands today, trusting that You are already sustaining what I am afraid to let go of. Settle me in the truth that I was never the source, never the power supply, and never the destination — only a part of a story that is Yours from beginning to end. To You be the glory forever, Amen.
